How to choose which style of clawfoot tub will work best for you

There are so many choices of clawfoot tub on the market today, it’s difficult to know which style will work best for you. To make things a little simpler, here are some guide points you may find useful.

Classic Style

Classic Style Clawfoot Tub Flat on top, round at the back end and squared off at the drain end. Generally good leg room and quite wide. Normally low height and easy access. No head support area. Normal depth. Not the most exciting appearance.

Single Slipper Style

Single Slipper Clawfoot Tub High end at the back and either squared or rounded at the lower drain end. Since the back is higher and the slope is quite steep, you get slightly less leg room. Relatively easy access at the lower end. Not as wide as the Classic style and normally narrows even further at the drain end. Good head support which is nice for a long soak. Normal depth. Elegant appearance.

Double Slipper Style

Double Slipper Clawfoot Tub High at both ends and low in the center. A lot less leg room even on longer tubs. Low enough and easy to access at the center. Some double slipper tubs can be extremely narrow, but for the most part, generally wide enough for most bathers. Good head support. Normal depth. Very elegant appearance.

Double Ended Style

Double Ended Clawfoot Tub Flat across the top and rounded on both ends. Good leg room as the ends do not rise higher than the middle. While many are relatively regular in height, some can be 4 or 5 inches higher than a Classic style tub, so access could be more difficult. Normally wide and spacious. Unless it is a tall tub, no real head rest area, but easy enough to slip down inside and rest you head on the edge. Slightly better than normal depth. Not such an exciting appearance.

Swedish Slipper

Swedish Slipper Clawfoot Tub Slightly higher at the back end than the drain end, but not as much as a single slipper. Very good leg room. Normally quite high, so access is not as easy as the Classic style or single slipper. Normally decent width narrowing very slightly at the drain end. Good head rest. Very good depth. Very elegant appearance.

French Bateau Style

Bateau Tub Shaped like the double slipper, but normally a lot narrower roll top lip and not such a huge difference in height between the ends and the center. Excellent leg room. Relatively simple access at the lower center area. Normally a decent width all the way along. Good head rest space. Normally decent depth. Extremely elegant style.
